QotD: World Teachers' Day

  • Oct 6, 2007
  • Post a comment

In honor of World Teachers' Day today, tell us about a teacher who had a positive impact on your life.
-All my teachers have had a positive impact on my life. But the most influential teacher was Mrs. Faiza Hamid. She was our Class In-charge during college. She has such a wonderful and charming personality. She is more like a mother to all of my classmates. Most teachers don't believe in teachers being friends with their students. They think that the teacher-student relationship should be restricted to respect-only. Which I totally disagree with. I think that if a teacher is closer to you, he or she will be more influential and persuasive. They will be able to get their point through effortlessly which is quite hard to achieve. Anyway back to Mrs. Faiza; she was our English teacher. "Good-bye Mr.Chips" was the novel in our syllabus. She always told us that Mr.Chips was quite lucky to have remembered so many of his students. If we meet her nowadays, she becomes nostalgic and tells us how she will never be able to forget our batch as we were the best one she ever taught. I personally think that she always wanted to be Mr.Chips and wanted us to treat her that way. My prayers with her always. Good Wishes, Salams...

What's one of your favorite quotes?
- Three of the quotes I love the most:

  1. "Some men see things as they are and say why, I dream things that never were and say why not"
  2. "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder"
  3. "The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese

Good Wishes, Salams...

QotD: Chores

Which household chores do you most/least enjoy?
- Being the youngest in the family you learn that life isn't easy. Everyone around you loves but they still expect you to do everything they want you to. Living alone with my parents for 5 years taught me how to cope with such circumstances. I was one of those kids who used to serve the guests and made sure that they are entertained. Even now whenever I'm the host, making the guests happy is my biggest priority. I lived fourteen years of my life with my siblings and parents, then the next five with parents alone and now I live with my siblings minus the parents. So practically I've lived in almost all the ways a human can live in a single lifetime. I have still to experience an independent life plus a married life which in itself is a big issue. So lets not beat about the bush. Coming back to the point, the chore I enjoy doing the most is helping people around the kitchen. The kitchen is like second heaven to me. You can do magic there. I can cook but I would love to be an equivalent to professional chef, not become one but have as much knowledge and experience. The chore that I least enjoy is making the bed and ironing clothes. They're like impossible to do. I see no point in making the bed because sooner or later someone's going to get on it again and ruin your flat surface to a rippled junk of cloth. Ironing the clothes is something I've never done and will never do unless and until I don't have anyone to do it for me. I normally wear jeans and tees and both of them don't require any sort of ironing. There you have it. My own say about the chores. Good Wishes, Salams...

QotD: Totally Obsessed

  • Mar 3, 2007
  • Post a comment

What is your current obsession(s)?
- Well as I'm a Virgoan, my nature tends to be detail-oriented. I'm the youngest in my family so that is another reason for me being as curious as the cat but forunately curiousity didn't kill me, instead made my mind open to all possibilities. I have had different obsessions at different stages. I don't even remember them all now. Old age and rustic mind are the sole reason for that. But I can list a few of them. Once I get crazy about something, I remain so until there is nothing left to know about that thing. Like at one time, I was really obsessed with Tekken. Then I explored everything there was to explore about Tekken. I even knew every character's age, fighting style, etc. Anyway that is how I am. Currently I have more than one obsession, and that really does happen at times. Nowadays I'm obsessed with Blogging, DeviantART, Gaming, Sub-Cults, etc. I won't list them all for security reasons. Good Wishes, Salams...

QotD: This Would Be Super

  • Feb 16, 2007
  • Post a comment

If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?
- As I'm human (and not a super human), I cannot live with only ONE super power in me. I would very much love to have the following super powers:

  1. Super Strength (Superman)
  2. Super Speed (Flash)
  3. Heightened Senses (Wolverine)
  4. Telepathy (Charles Xavier/Professor X)
  5. Telekinesis (Jean Grey)
  6. Power over metal (Magneto)
  7. Power over earth (Avalanche)
  8. Power over fire (Pyro)
  9. Power over water/ice (Iceman)
  10. Indestructable with no weaknesses whatsoever (Superman)

In other words, something like God but under God's control. And in no way associated with the the evil side. You can clearly see from my list that I'm a Marvel Fan. I really love watching or reading stuff related to superheroes. My all-time favourite characters are Wolverine, Superman, Batman, Charles Xavier and Magneto. I love Wolverine's attitude, Superman's greatness, Batman's mysteriosness, Charles Xavier's nobility and Magneto's style. Good Wishes, Salams...

QotD: Think Global, Buy Local

  • Feb 11, 2007
  • Post a comment

Do you buy products made locally? Is there anything made in your area that you love?
- Local products in my country are quite great. If I were asked this question a few years back, I would've said NO. But after living in my land for about two years, I say YES, I'd very much prefer to buy the local products. I really love how the competition between local and international products is rising. Competition is one of the main cause for the quality of the local products being raised. And I really appreciate and love that. There are many products in my locality that I love. The food here is great, the furniture and other hand-made stuff is far better than the one made internationally. Even with all the corruption and faults, I still love my country and I wish I could do more for it somehow. Good Wishes, Salams...

What was the one toy you wanted as a kid that your parents never bought you?
- Finally a question that doesn't deserve a serious answer. Well all my life I asked my parents to buy me a console, a playstation or xbox or anything of the sort but they never did. But this was something that I requested for in my late teens. As a kid, I always wanted a remote-controlled car that I once saw in an ad and in the corner shelf of Toys R Us. My parents never bought me that either. The reason was that I had already wasted three of my earlier remote-controlled cars in stunts that no sane child would try. Good Wishes, Salams...

QotD: Life-Changing Books

  • Feb 2, 2007
  • Post a comment

What are five books that changed your life?
- I haven't read many books. Unfortunately life hasn't spared me enough time to catch up on some of the awesome work written by fantastic people. I wish I had more time for reading books. I have only read the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkien and the Harry Potter series. Those books really did change my life. Apart from that, my course books had some positive and negative effects on my life. One book that really changed me a lot was Good-bye Mr.Chips, it was an awesome book about an English teacher who taught at an all-boys school. Wonderfully written book. Religiously speaking, the Holy Quran has had the biggest effect in my life. I learned all my social and religous ettiquettes from that book. I was also given the honour of being a Hafiz which means I memorized the Holy Quran by heart. I dishonoured myself eventually. I guess that is what happens when you try to memorize something so pure in your already disgusted and confused mind. I hope I re-memorize it again and may Allah SWT help me in doing so. Good Wishes, Salams...

QotD: It's Like Riding A Bike

  • Jan 31, 2007
  • Post a comment

Who taught you how to ride a bike?
- I think it was my elder brother who taught me. My first bike was a BMX something. Don't remember the exact model. I only rode bike from grade 2 to grade 7. After that I quit. It no longer amused me like it did in the earlier days. Now when I sometimes ride a bike, it makes me feel good and nostalgic. Makes me remember those old carefree days when riding a bike was doing something that really mattered. Good Wishes, Salams...
